Clouds

this lesson we learnt how to flesh out our 2D world by creating a more vibrant background, for example today we created clouds within 'Adobe Illustrator' first off we used the circle option then we had to make perfect circles and placed them underneath the original circle and arranged them to that the little circles were at the back.

Evaluation

Evaluation

In this project we were told to create a world, a main protagonists, a main antagonist and an objective. This objective could be a Princess or anything really. To do this we rolled on a table to select what we were to do for example one of the results you could get was a world made of ice cream with the hero being a robot and the villain could be an evil wizard and the objective could be to defeat him, so what I got was the world being 90% filled with water, the hero was a warrior princess and object was to rescuing another princess. We also need to create a story of some kind, mine was that the hero has to rescue her sister while a villain is trying to block the hero at all costs. Also the final stipulation was that both the hero and villain needs a secret of some form so I had given the villain telekinesis and the hero the ability to block any incoming damage by making herself as hard as metal.
To start with I did some primary research by looking through different comic books and old 8-bit games. This is because the comic books had some iconic stories such as 'Batman Death of the Family'. Also I researched the 8-bit games because I could see how games were originally I also had a good idea about level design so if this project carries on to actually create a game I won't have any unfair level design. For an example the first 'Castle Vania' game of the series had a good level design because it allowed all of the items that the player picked up was useful while a bad example would be the latest Mario game in the series 'Mario Maker'. I choose 'Mario Maker' is because how easy to make an unfair level such as needing to have fail margin to have the width of a hair pin so that means if you move to quickly to the left you'll die. My secondary research was looking at different character designs to see if I can get any ideas for the project, you will be able to see how I was inspired from my hero because it was heavily influence by 'Shovel Knight' and 'Meteoroid' this is because I liked the idea to allow the audience to make the decision on what gender the hero is. For my world I used the idea of ‘Guns of Icarus' which is that as soon as you hit the ground you would die no matter how far you are off the ground. Finally for the villain design I used the propaganda used in the Cold War about Russian.
For our Pre-production I had brainstormed ideas for the story by first off writing down tropes the conjoined the different tropes together and the writ out a bullet point with three different heading, these are 'Start, Middle, End'. After three attempts I used the reasoning of the witch trials so that allowed me to choose the right story after this I used 'Adobe Illustrator' to sketch out a rough copy of the different characters and world. After this I wrote a list of colours to use and what would look good and what wouldn't. These colours
First I use Adobe Illustrator to create the characters however I didn't have a steady enough hand to create the outlines and details so to get around this I used the shape tool to create the main body and face however I couldn't do that with the details so I had to slowly create it by trial and error. Next was the creation of the world since we can only use original work I did the same technique I did with the characters however I added a lens flare where the sun is since the way it is designed the sun is behind the hills so the lens flare is there for effect, the world I created was from the shape tool as well; the shapes I used for this was a combination of oval, squares, triangles and circles. Triangles aren't usually available so to make them you'll need to make a square then use the selection tool and edit it accordingly.
For the Post Production I had use Photoshop since it is a program specifically used for editing and adjustment. To be more specific I had the water in the world changed with Photoshop so once as done drawing the sea I used Photoshop because I’d wanted to create the foam created from the waves crashing together, this is because I can add more detail with the different tools such as the air brush and also because of the wider colour pallet. I also threw the characters on Photoshop to add the highlight and shading etc. What I would do differently would be to create more complex characters as well as being able to do the shading and highlights on the created characters to a professional standard.

Character Designs

In this lesson we had to design two characters for my 2D game that would be hypothetically be made my main character is a female kinght and her special ability is telekinesis and the main villain is a wizard.

Starting out:

To start out we made a small 2D creature to get a hang of the software as well as improving our Independence when needing to solve a problem.

This is the main hero (Above) I based his appearance off of the game shovel knights(Below). I did this because i wanted to emulate the 1800's with the witch hunting be popular at the time.
